Ekiti Governorship Hopeful Hails Tinubu's Recognition Of June 12 Heroes

The Ekiti State 2026 Governorship hopeful, Engineer Kayode Olubunmi Ojo has hailed the recognition of the June 12 heroes which was recognised by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his 2025 Democracy Day Speech delivered on the floor of the National Assembly during their joint sittings earlier held on Thursday. 


Above was contained in a press statement personally signed by the Ikoro Ekiti born politician and administrator, Engineer Kayode Olubunmi Ojo, who revealed that the history of democracy in Nigeria cannot be completed without a reference to the June 12 struggles. 


He used the opportunity to emphasized on the many sacrifices made by the Late Moshood Kashimowo Olawale Abiola, who submitted himself as the sacrificial lamb for the Country, Nigeria's democracy to be birthed. 


He offered his sincere prayers for Late Abiola and many others for their souls to continue to rest with the Lord.


Ojo maintained that the awful events of  the death of the heroes of June 12 and the fighters for the birth of the Nigeria's democracy will continue to remain fresh in the memories of Nigerians. 


He also hailed Nigerians for speaking up and acted with one voice for the first time after the Country's Independence since 1960, without religious or language or ethnocentric barriers. 


Querying further, Ojo asked: "Is Nigeria worth dying for? In a rhetorical response, he said, "higher percentage of Nigerians believes 'NO' for an answer. He also queried "if the narrative is changing", and responded positively. 


Reminding Nigerians, Ojo described the June 12, 1993 as the scenario which helped the Country to produced many Presidents. 


He however submitted that out of the many Presidents the Country has produced so far, he distinguishes the current administration led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as second to none. 


He expressed the hope in the ability of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to exhibit the courage to reconnect Nigerians back 

to the dream of recovering the journey truncated as a result of the June 12 election which was aborted prematurely. 


Adding, he described Present Tinubu as a man whom God is presently using to restore the Country's past glory despite his involvement in active participation of the struggle, which made him risk his life to the point of death, and which led him into an unplanned exile. 


Ojo also hailed President Tinubu for submitting all he has to free Nigeria from enslavement of the military regimes. 



A man with a Renewed Hope Agenda.

A man of vision for a new Nigeria.


"President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is laying a very good foundation and it is incumbent on us to support him through his Renewed Hope Agenda.


"Today, I have no doubt that in my mind that Late Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola and all past heroes and heroins who paid the ultimate price with their lives to see emergence of a new Nigeria will be happy with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a leader who did not allowed their labours to go in vain.


"It is not enough to celebrate June 12 but to keep the vision of these past heroes and heroins through reflection on our journey as a people, most especially where we started our dreams for a new Nigeria". 


Equally, Engineer Kayode Olubunmi Ojo also used the opportunity to greet and facilitate with Nigerians for their unflinching support on the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. 


He also commended the leadership of the current National Assembly for supporting the President wholeheartedly in his efforts to change and transform the fortunes of the Country and that of it's citizens. 


"Also to the Ekiti people, as we prepare for the 2026 Governorship Election, let us be purposeful and united for the betterment of the state*, he concluded.
